Between August 22nd and 26th, the 12th of SP-Arte / Foto takes place. The festival is the most important of the country dedicated exclusively to photographic works. In the five days of the event, at JK Iguatemi Shopping, modern and contemporary photographs are guidelines for debates, book launches and exhibitions. Emma participates representing the collective Atelier do Centro, Fabiano Rodrigues and Hugo Curti.
Atelier do Centro
Commanded by Rubens Espírito Santos – the RES -, the Atelier do Centro is an interdisciplinary collective that brings together more than 30 Brazilian and foreign artists. The clipping made for Emmathomas privileges the more consistent artists who have been in the studio for the longest time, among them Anna Israel, Gabi Celan, Gabriel Botta, Luca Parise, Rafael Chvaicer and RES.
The group develops productions with sculptures, drawings, paintings, photographs and installations. The Atelier do Centro has five production sheds, one of them in Spain. What unites all members is a practice called Methodo – a type of relationship practiced in the Atelier, which passes through philosophy of art, plastic production and the transmission of art.
A former geologist, jeweler, photographer and visual artist, Hugo Curti has a thought-provoking and imaginative work that starts from the re-signification and reorganization of everyday objects to challenge and transcend conventions. Unusual fables, hypotheses and narratives about the origin of the world and human relations come to life through the artist’s eyes and lenses. It has works in the collection of the Pinacoteca of the State of São Paulo, collection at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the University of São Paulo (MAC – USP) and at the Brazilian Aluminum Association (Abal).
The artist moves between photography, collage, video and performance. The artist explores the relationship of body and architecture of urban centers in B & W productions, where he balances light and shade. Rodrigues was born in 1978 in Santos, on the coast of São Paulo, and now lives and works in the city of São Paulo. A self-taught artist and professional skateboarder, he began his artistic career because of the passion for sports. It was observing the photographers who registered their maneuvers that Rodrigues happened to be interested in the technique.
